Belkyra Double Chin Injection is a cosmetic injectable that works by inserting deoxycholic acid, a substance that is already naturally present in our bodies, to the area under the chin. Deoxycholic acid works by destroying fat membranes causing the fat cells to die. Once destroyed, our body naturally eliminates the dead fat cells from the body, eradicating the fat from under the chin and resulting in a more contoured shape to the face. So long as your weight remains stable, the fat will not return.
BOOK AN APPOINTMENTThe Belkyra Double Chin Injection procedure is very simple and lasts anywhere from 15-20 minutes. Belkyra will be injected into a number of targeted areas below the chin. We use very fine needles for injection and most patients do not experience discomfort, but we can also apply a topical numbing agent to make you more comfortable throughout the entire procedure.
Generally anyone who has submental fullness under their chin is a good candidate for Belkyra, however whether Belkyra is the right treatment for you will be assessed in your in person complimentary consultation with your provider.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should wait to have Belkyra treatment until after they are finished nursing.
If you are allergic to Belkyra or any of its ingredients you should not have the procedure. You should also disclose any immune system, blood, or neurological disorders to your doctor or nurse practitioner before undergoing treatment.
You can expect to see results in a few weeks following your treatment. You need to allow your body time to eliminate the destroyed fat cells. Once these fat cells are eliminated the results are permanent.
When you book your complimentary in person consultation with your MD injector together you will decide on an individualized treatment plan that is right for you. In order to achieve optimal results for you, your injector will recommend the number of sessions needed.
Most patients need no more than 2 sessions in order to achieve what they are looking for, but in some cases your injector may recommend 3 or 4. Once you have received the number of treatments recommended, however, the results are permanent, and the area does not need to be retreated.
Any side effects experienced post treatment are brief and should resolve themselves within a few days following the procedure. There is no recovery time following the Belkyra Double Chin Injection treatment and most patients feel well enough to return to work and their daily activities immediately after treatment, however some prefer to take a day or two off.
You might experience some tenderness and bruising at the site of injection, and it is also common to experience swelling (which could last for up to 10 days). For this reason, we often recommend getting the treatment done in the fall and winter when it’s easy to conceal the swelling with a scarf, shawl or turtleneck.
