Happy New Year to everyone from our entire team at MD Beauty Clinic!

We’re not sure about you, but on our end, the holidays were BUSY. And when we say “busy” we mean lots of parties and events, with admittedly too much food and drink that, well, although much enjoyed in the moment, probably hasn’t done our skin any favours.

So what better way to start the new year than by giving the skin that much needed post-holiday detox and getting it back into tip top shape?

Here are some of our recommendations for the best in-clinic and at home treatments that will rejuvenate the skin and get your skincare routine back on track.

The Best In-Clinic Treatments To Rejuvenate Your Skin After the Holidays

Miracle 10 Facial Peel Treatment

One of the best and also gentle ways to start off your post-holiday skin detox is with a Miracle 10 facial peel treatment. We recommend this facial peel as a constant in your in clinic skincare treatment routine in general, but if you haven’t already tried it and you’re looking for where to start following the holidays, this is truly one of our faves.

The Miracle 10 facial peel treatment is literally meant to deeply cleanse and exfoliate your skin for overall rejuvenation and hydration with no downtime. It will never leave your skin looking red or feeling raw, but it’s strong enough to not only deeply cleanse the skin but also address tricky skin concerns like melasma and rosacea.

And one of the best parts about it is that it yields so many skincare benefits while also being a super relaxing treatment, key for diminishing the stress and anxiety associated with the return to your regular routine and the start of a new year.

Microneedling Beauty Booster or PRP

If you’re noticing that your skin has become super dried out over the holidays or is generally lacklustre, we recommend microneedling treatments to deliver deep hydration and overall improvement to the skin.

Depending on your skin needs and general preferences we recommend either a microneedling beauty booster which combines microneedling with hyaluronic acid (HA), particularly if you’re looking for a major hydration boost.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for overall skin rejuvenation and improving collagen production, microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) also known as the vampire facial, might be more up your alley. Microneedling with PRP is considered to be a more natural approach to skin rejuvenation, using your body’s own plasma to stimulate collagen production and encouraging new healthy skin cell turnover.

For best results we typically recommend a series of microneedling treatments to start whether you’re doing a beauty booster or PRP or even a combination of both, and these do involve some social downtime, so scheduling of the treatments should be planned accordingly.

Morpheus8 and Sculptra

If you’ve been concerned about sagging, hollowness, and an overall dull and less than vital appearance to the skin for a while now, and your skin just seems even worse following the holidays (it happens!), then you may want to consider more aggressive and generally impactful treatments like Morpheus8 or Sculptra.

Morpheus8 combines deep microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) technology, offering a number of benefits from improving textural irregularities, building collagen, skin tightening and deep tissue remodelling to an overall improvement of the appearance of the skin.

If treating depressions and moderate facial folds as well as skin laxity and improving on your overall facial volume and structure is what you’re concerned about then you might benefit from Sculptra treatments.

Best at Home Treatments for Post-Holiday Skin

Our favourite post-holiday skincare routine includes Enzyme, Mask, and Stem Cell Serum from Miracle 10. You can do this 3 times per week for the first two weeks after the holidays or when your skin really needs a boost and then scale back to once per week. Adding in a Super C treatment 2 times per week will deliver results even faster.

Here’s a step by step of the process so that you can get started right away.

Step 1: After gently cleansing your skin with your favourite cleanser, you’re going to lightly massage a dollop of Enzyme onto your damp face and neck for approximately 1-3 minutes. Rinse the skin with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel. By exfoliating first, you’re ensuring the rest of your skincare routine will penetrate further into the layers of your skin for optimal results.

Step 2: Go to town with Mask. Use your fingers or paint it on with a brush, whichever gives you the most satisfaction! Leave it on your face for anywhere between 10-15 minutes. Once the timer is up, we love using a warm, damp towel to remove Mask but for those with a more delicate complexion, wet your hands and massage your skin to break down the dried-up Mask for a gentler removal process. Pat dry.

Step 3: Apply 1-2 pumps of Stem Cell Serum to your fingertips and lightly massage onto your freshly cleansed and exfoliated skin. Allow a few minutes to pass before following up with your tried-and-true moisturizer. This will ensure to every ounce of your Stem Cell Serum has fully absorbed deep into your skin.

Post-Holiday Lifestyle Recommendations

Healthy Diet and Beauty Sleep

We all need to let loose and indulge from time to time, and that’s ultimately what a time like the holidays is for, just to kick back, relax and have fun. That being said, returning to healthy lifestyle habits in the new year is also pretty nice and has major skincare benefits.

We highly recommend sticking to a healthy balance of a good diet and regular exercise, as well as getting good quality sleep (8-9 hours a night is extremely beneficial for skin rejuvenation, aka beauty sleep), and limiting stressors will help all your organ systems reset and ultimately look and feel better.

Investing in a Humidifier

On a final note, it’s not just stress and too much alcohol that causes your skin to look dull after the holidays. Our dry Canadian winter environment also makes it so that there is less humidity in our indoor and outdoor spaces, making our skin feel extra dry.

To combat this, we recommend bringing some humidity back into your space via a humidifier. This will really help hydrate the skin and just generally keep the air around you smooth and balanced.
