PRP/PRF (platelet-rich plasma/fibrin) is a really amazing treatment for overall skin rejuvenation, and we love it especially because it uses what we already naturally produce in our bodies – platelets rich in plasma or fibrin – in order to make all that magic happen on our faces.

PRP/PRF essentially extracts platelets rich in plasma or fibrin from your blood and re-injects it into target areas of the face via either an injectable or microneedling treatment in order stimulate the production of collagen, encourage new skin cell turnover, resulting in overall healthier and brighter skin.

PRP can really address so many issues from fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture and tone, improve on facial volume, scarring, and so much more.

There’s one small catch though. Because PRP is a natural alternative to many skin rejuvenation treatments, meaning it uses what you yourself already produce in your body, you want to be sure that you’re treating your body right and staying as healthy as possible, especially right before your PRP treatment, to make sure you get the absolute most out of this treatment.

Here are some of our tips on how you can get the most out of your PRP/PRF treatment.

Keep up a healthy lifestyle

The holiday season is upon us and it can be a bit of a catch-22 because we want to have fabulous skin for all those fun seasonal events, but they’re also events where we want to indulge in stuff that might not always be the best thing for our bodies.

Our recommendation, though, if you really want to get the most out of your PRP treatment is to try to:

  • Eat well and not drink excessively in the lead up to your treatment
  • Basically we want good platelets to work with, and the healthier your body is the healthier those platelets will be. So maybe trade in the wine for water, at least before your treatment.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of anything that thins your blood to avoid bruising

So we’re talking alcohol as well, but also certain medications like Aspirin can thin your blood and risk more bruising from the treatment than necessary.

Don’t wash your face until the next day

After your PRP treatment we really want your face to just bath in and absorb all the growth factors offered by plasma or fibrin, so we recommend that you don’t wash your face until the day after your treatment.

Combine PRP with other skin treatments

If you really want to boost your PRP results we recommend combining it with other treatments, like the Essential Facial or IPL.

The Essential Facial

You can combine PRP with the Essential Facial, which is a relaxing treatment that encourages blood flow, decreases inflammation and improves on skin tone and circulation. You can even do both of these treatments on the same day, starting with the Essential Facial, which is actually an excellent base treatment for your PRP treatment.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Combining an IPL session with your PRP treatment is absolutely amazing for anyone looking to combat uneven skin texture. Again, you can do both of these treatments on the same day, starting with your IPL treatment first.

Combining treatments can really maximize your overall results and also lets you be more efficient with your time.

Book at regular intervals

You will always get more out of your PRP treatment if you ensure you are booking at regular intervals

Sometimes our schedules don’t allow for us to regularly follow-up with our treatments, but PRP is one of those treatments where you really do want to book your subsequent treatments at regular intervals.

Whether you need a series of 2-3 initial treatments depends on your skin goals, and will be decided with your provider, but basically PRP is a major collagen boosting treatment, and it’s those series of initial treatments that’s going to give your body a good base for producing a lot of that collagen as well as turning over new skin cells.

Combine PRP with Microneedling Skin Booster treatments

For even more fantastic PRP results you can also combine the treatment with our microneedling beauty booster with hyaluronic acid. In this case we wouldn’t schedule your treatments on the same day but alternate every two weeks.

The combination of PRP and our microneedling beauty booster is really amazing for pretty much anyone, but particularly effective for anyone looking to treat melasma as well as anyone really looking to get a huge skin hydration boost.

Finally, you can also add PRP to your Morpheus8 treatment for fantastic skin rejuvenating results! Thanks to the effective dermal penetration of the Morpheus8 applicator, we can apply PRP directly to the skin immediately following the RF treatment.

This is why we love PRP so much. It’s just one of those treatments that’s great for all skin types and that you can do so much with, with the extra added bonus of some stellar skin results.
