If you struggle with acne then you know that it can be a b@*&h to treat. Even for those of us in the cosmetic industry there is no one go-to solution for acne that works for everyone. It’s usually a series of treatments and skincare products that we prescribe, and some things work and some don’t. It’s a little bit of a game of trial and error but we can get there.

If you have acne prone skin, you know that it might sometimes make you feel self-conscious, which we don’t wish on anyone. Beyond that, it can also be really painful, irritating, and a major distraction (as anyone who’s ever dealt with cystic acne will tell you, you should never underestimate its powers).

We want you to feel as amazing as possible so that you can focus on all the important things you need to tackle without giving acne a second thought. When we discover any extra ammunition that we have to fight those pesky breakouts and prevent them from happening we LOVE to talk about it. So without further ado, we want to introduce you to our newest acne-busting friend: Morpheus8.

What is acne?

Acne basically happens when our pores get clogged with dirt, oil, and even dead skin cells. There’s a bacteria called cutibacterium, which is the bacteria that causes acne, and it likes to feed off of all the dirt and oil on our faces and as a result causes inflammation, which turns into the pimples and other skin ailments that we identify as acne.

Some of us have larger pores or our skin is more prone to producing excess oil, and this combined with dirt and whatever else is in the air and that we come into contact with on a daily basis will ultimately result in acne. Whether it be your standard pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, what have you…..it’s not generally anything that we love having on our faces, or anywhere else on the body.

But acne can also happen with hormonal imbalances. Pregnancy can be a big one, where you may be someone who never experienced acne before and then bam, there it is. Luckily in those cases once you stop being pregnant and your hormones return to normal, your acne will most likely go away if you were not necessarily acne prone pre-pregnancy. But other hormonal fluctuations can cause acne flare ups, like periods, and those intermittent breakouts can be ongoing in the long term.

How can Morpheus8 treat acne?

Ok, so let’s get to the point. Morpheus8, what’s the magic behind this treatment? How does it eliminate acne?

Morpheus8 is actually a skin tightening and resurfacing treatment. It combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy and can penetrate the skin at different depths, the deepest being 4-5 mm, which is much deeper than traditional microneedling treatments.

But really simply put Morpheus 8 basically stops acne bacteria in its tracks. It not only destroys the bacteria that causes acne while ablating the skin tissue, but it also shrinks and eventually shuts down the oil glands that are found just below the surface of the skin making it so that the entire process that causes acne in the first place is halted before it even starts. No production of oily stuff for acne bacteria to feed off of equals no inflammation and no pimples. TA DA! So cool.

Can Morpheus8 get rid of acne scars?

Yes. Morpheus8 is super effective for acne scarring and all kinds of scars actually. Because Morpheus8 is actually a microneedling treatment, it makes tiny abrasions in your skin in order to stimulate a wound healing response that gets your body to produce collagen and elastin, and to turn over new healthy skin cells. It significantly heals and reduces the appearance of scars and any other textural irregularities, especially following a course of treatments.

What else can Morpheus8 do?

When you’re looking to treat one skin concern, chances are there are a few other things that you may want to address that might have been bugging you. You might be thinking “well, if I’m going in to have my acne treated wouldn’t it be great if I could also tighten some of this lax skin too?”

That’s why we are absolutely loving Morpheus8, because it’s just one of those treatments that can address a whole series of skin concerns for any skin type.

So it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the body and promotes new healthy skin cell turnover. This will in turn tighten and firm up your skin especially where it tends to sag and jowl the most, but you’ll also see an improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Morpheus8 can also help with things like hyperpigmentation and even stretch marks.

Oh and did we mention that it also has the capability to remodel and contour any part of your face, neck and body? Yeah, the technology behind it is such that it targets the connective tissue just below the surface of the skin which gives it this unique remodelling capability.

How many treatments will I need to treat my acne?

Unfortunately we haven’t yet found a magic weapon that will get rid of acne overnight. We find that 3 treatments of Morpheus8 spaced 4-6 weeks apart usually yields the best results. But once they do, the results are amazing. Some patients find they only need annual treatments to keep their acne at bay (as long as they’re following a great skincare routine—never underestimate the power of good skincare!), and some are lucky enough to eradicate the acne permanently, which is rarer, obviously, but not impossible.

So if you’re still struggling to find a treatment that will help with your acne, this might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for. Wondering if it’s right for you? Our consultations are always free, so come in and talk to us about your skin goals.
