The nose is obviously a super important facial feature—it’s right there taking a leading role at the centre of your face. We’ve met patients who want to address irregularities in the nose, some of which are the result of genetics and have been that way forever, and some that are the result of injury causing a change in shape. We’ve also met patients who have the same kind of bumps or irregularities who love these defining characteristics and couldn’t imagine (or want) a different nose.

We’re all about both scenarios. If you’re into the way something looks and how it suits you, we’re right there with you. If you want to change something to get more of the look you want, we’re here to help you find a treatment plan that’s going to meet your goals.

When it comes to making changes to the nose, the first thing that comes to mind is probably rhinoplasty surgery, more commonly known as a nose job. And while surgery can certainly make the most substantial adjustments, we also have the option of a non-surgical approach to rhinoplasty, a treatment that has become more and more popular over the past few years.

As with most treatments that start trending, there are a bunch of misconceptions out there about the non-surgical nose job. Here’s what you need to know so that you don’t end up with an unexpected or unwanted result.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is Not Permanent

First off it’s important to keep in mind that non-surgical rhinoplasty is not permanent. Non-surgical rhinoplasty works by injecting dermal fillers into targeted areas of the nose in order to correct certain irregularities. At MD Beauty Clinic we use hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers, which last for a little over a year.

You might hear about clinics using synthetic permanent fillers. These should be 100 percent avoided as they can cause infections and other complications that are difficult to reverse, which can ultimately result in permanent deformities to the nose. Only gel based fillers should be injected into the nose, not particulate fillers.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is More Affordable

Which means that non-surgical rhinoplasty is not crazy expensive, as many people also think. It’s a significantly lower cost than a surgical rhinoplasty. And at MD Beauty Clinic, your non-surgical rhinoplasty is always performed by a doctor who has extensive knowledge of nasal anatomy and an experienced understanding specific to the proportions of the nose. Hey, if you’re going to undergo a non-surgical nose job, why not have a practitioner who understands the ins and outs of its surgical counterpart?

At our clinic non-surgical rhinoplasty starts at $1500. This is approximate and depends on the specificities of your individual case. We’ll give you a firm quote once you’ve had your complimentary consultation with us.

The non-surgical nose job can’t correct everything

This is really the biggest and most serious misconception, that non-surgical rhinoplasty can correct all kinds of nose irregularities. Unfortunately this is just not the case. Here’s what a non-surgical nose job can do:

Smooth out a dorsum

Non-surgical rhinoplasty works by adding volume to the nose, so it’s only really effective for specific types of nose irregularities.

Typically those who have an imperfection closer to the middle of the nose, like a dip, will find success with non-surgical rhinoplasty. If you need to even out this area of the nose, otherwise known as smoothing out an irregular dorsum, we can do that for you. Think of it like filling a pothole to smooth out a road.

Correct a dorsal bump

The other type of nose irregularity non-surgical rhinoplasty is great for is to reduce a bump or hump in the dorsum. This is a common concern for a lot of rhinoplasty patients. If you add volume to the dorsum both above and below the bump it will help create a gradual transition to the hump or bump, making it more balanced-looking with a more symmetrical overall appearance.

Improve the look of the tip of your nose

The non-surgical nose-job can correct some nasal tip irregularities too, but not all of them. By adding volume strategically it can give a little lift to a downturned tip or add symmetry to an asymmetrical tip.

Correct irregularities following a nose job

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is also a great option in order to correct specific minor irregularities that might have come about as a result of an actual rhinoplasty procedure, in order to avoid the need to have a subsequent surgery performed.

That said, when it comes to non-surgical rhinoplasty, we always approach the nose on a case by case basis. We have to closely examine your nasal anatomy in order to ensure that filler is actually going to make your nose look better and not worse.

Because filler adds volume to the nose what you want to avoid is building up volume too close to the bridge or dorsum. This will make it appear as though you have your nose starting from in between the eyes (sometimes colloquially referred to as “Avatar nose” due to a similar look to the characters in the movie). Sometimes you might see a before and after photo of a non-surgical rhinoplasty result from the side and it might look nice, but as soon as you look at the person straight on it looks, well, super weird.

So as much as we love non-surgical options, the treatment needs to fit with your needs, and what you’re trying to correct or enhance. The nose, in particular, is very tricky. If you have a breathing related issue or more complex nose deformity or irregularity we may recommend that you explore surgical options, as some things can only be corrected surgically.

Either way, if you’re not sure what treatment or procedure you need, come talk to us. That’s what we’re here for.
