How it Works

Sofwave uses its very own technology called SUPERB™. This stands for Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam, and it refers to the 7 energy transmitters embedded in the treatment device. This means that Sofwave works faster than many of its counterparts and more consistently given its seamless design.

Sofwave can address smaller areas, like the face and neck, within a short treatment period, as well as larger surface areas, like the upper arms and thighs. With SUPERB™, the device evenly distributes energy that raises dermal temperature between 60° and 70° C. The heat stimulates collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid for skin-tightening effects. Sofcool™, Sofwave’s embedded cooling technology, protects the surface of the skin from damage by detecting skin temperature and adjusting accordingly.

Sofwave is beneficial for those wanting a more comprehensive treatment for the face and body that can treat wrinkling, dimpling, and sagging skin. The Procedure

Your appointment will start with a brief exploration of your goals and an opportunity to ask questions. During your session, your provider will prep the area of concern. A contact gel is used to direct the ultrasound energy towards the target area. The Sofwave device is slowly passed over the skin, moving to a new position every 6-7 seconds. To improve your comfort, we offer both nitrous oxide and oxygen for pain relief, as well as a medical-grade skin cooling system that can be applied to the treatment area.

The treatment itself takes 30-90 minutes depending on the treatment area. The entire face can be done in as little as half an hour, while the upper arms and thighs can take a little longer. Once you’re done, your provider will advise you on what to avoid post-treatment. The entire session is booked for 1-2 hours, with immediate recovery upon completion.

Is there any downtime?

Like most energy-based treatments, Sofwave requires little to no downtime. Patients may experience mild “tingling,” warmth, or redness, which lasts up to a few hours. The area of treatment may be more tender than usual, but most patients are able to return to their routine right after their appointment.

Sofwave accommodates patients who are hesitant to try injections or microneedling for skin tightening. It skips the skin’s surface and goes straight for the dermal layer, where most superficial changes (e.g., scarring, dimpling, wrinkling) originate. It’s also good for patients worried about losing volume, since it doesn’t target layers of underlying fat.

Who should not have Sofwave Skin Tightening?

Sofwave has been Health Canada approved and is considered to be safe for all skin types. Patients who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding may want to avoid Sofwave. Patients who have metal implants must also exercise caution with this treatment. In any case, be sure to notify your provider of these things so they can proceed accordingly.

When can I expect to see results?

You can expect to see marked improvements 2 weeks after your Sofwave skin tightening appointment. At 3 months, you may want a follow-up session, but results from just one treatment can last up to 1-2 years.
