So what is melasma?

Also known as chloasma or “the mask of pregnancy” when it occurs in pregnant women, melasma is surprisingly common, and is when patches of discoloration appear on your skin. The colour is usually darker than your skin colour and the patches usually appear to be symmetrical, so if you have patches of darker skin on one side of your face you’ll have something similar on the other side as well.

Melasma can appear anywhere on the face, such as your cheeks, your chin, your forehead, and even on the bridge of your nose. Melasma can also appear on other parts of your body, particularly in those areas where there is consistent exposure to the sun, so on your neck and forearms for example.

A number of factors are known to cause melasma: sensitivity to hormonal changes (pregnancy and birth control pills), thyroid problems, sun damage, and even stress.

If you have melasma it might make you feel super self-conscious and uncomfortable.

Depending on your needs, we will prescribe some combination of the following treatments to help reduce your melasma:

How much does it cost?

The cost of melasma treatment is dependent on your skin needs and on the type of treatment plan our providers will recommend for you. This can include prescribing a range of Miracle 10 skincare products to be used at home to beauty booster treatments that can help to improve on your skin’s overall tone and appearance. Following your complimentary consultation with one of our MD providers we’ll be able to give you a quote for your customized treatment plan.
