MOXI Laser Treatment In a Nutshell

What is it?

MOXI is a quick, comfortable fractional laser treatment with minimal downtime that’s safe for all skin types. Using gentle, non-ablative laser energy, it helps refresh the skin by addressing early signs of sun damage, discolouration, and aging while supporting healthy skin renewal. It’s an excellent way to improve tone and texture while keeping your complexion looking rejuvenated.

Who is it for?

Anyone looking to:

  • Treat uneven tone and pigmentation
  • Clear up melasma
  • Address early sun damage
  • Reduce uneven superficial texture
  • Improve skin quality
  • Refresh skin with minimal downtime
  • Support preventative skin care (“prejuvenation”)

How It Works

As a gentler fractional laser, MOXI helps address early signs of aging while promoting a brighter, more even complexion. Many patients notice smoother, more radiant skin after just one treatment. It’s well suited for all skin types, whether you’re just beginning to explore professional skin treatments or looking for a lighter resurfacing option to maintain glowing, revitalized skin.

MOXI works by encouraging your skin to naturally renew itself. During the treatment, the laser creates tiny, controlled treatment zones in the skin. Your body then responds by repairing these areas, replacing older, damaged cells with fresh, healthy ones. As your skin heals, you’ll notice improvements in tone and texture.

Because MOXI targets water molecules in the skin rather than melanin, it reduces the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, meaning it’s safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types.

The Procedure

Your aesthetician will cleanse the treatment area and apply a numbing cream at the beginning of your appointment. The numbing typically takes about 30 minutes to take full effect. This helps to ensure that your treatment is as comfortable as possible.

The active treatment portion of your appointment will only take about 8-10 minutes for the full face. If you elect to treat other larger areas of the body, it may require up to 20 minutes per session. During the treatment, your provider will pass the handheld device over your skin and you will likely feel a warming sensation or a slight prickly feeling that indicates the laser is working. We’ll provide you with a cold air blower device for extra comfort.

This warming sensation occurs as the MOXI device creates tiny columns of thermal injury (or micro-coagulation zones) below the skin’s surface. This process kickstarts your body’s natural healing response to stimulate collagen production and skin renewal.

Is there any downtime?

Immediately following your MOXI treatment, you can expect your skin to be red and warm, akin to the feeling and appearance of a sunburn. During the first 24 hours following your appointment, you’ll need to wear a physical or mineral sunscreen and ensure that you stay out of the sun. Your provider will give you more specific guidance, but in most cases you can plan to wear makeup again after this 24-hour period.

On the day after treatment, your skin will likely still appear reddish and you may see the formation of tiny dark spots called MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris). This is completely normal and is the result of the micro-coagulation zones healing and becoming darker and rougher. Around days 3-5, these treated cells will slough off, revealing new skin underneath. It is important to follow your aesthetician’s post-treatment guidance carefully, and keep your skin moisturized and protected with physical sunscreen.

When can I expect to see results?

Results tend to vary depending on the treatment plan you decide with your provider. That being said, many patients report seeing improvements to texture and pigment in as little as 5-7 days. Long-term results and greater improvements caused by collagen induction typically become apparent within 4-8 weeks.

If you opt for a series of treatments, you will continue to see improvements with each subsequent session.

How many MOXI laser treatments will I need?

Your provider will discuss your skin goals with you and will work closely with you in order to create a customized treatment plan for your needs. They will give you recommendations for the right number of treatments for you, and will outline a realistic timeline to achieve your goals.

While it depends on the level of correction you are aiming for, most patients opt for around three to four treatments in order to see a noticeable transformation. Many are so pleased with their results that they choose to have one or two maintenance treatments a year in order to maintain their improved skin quality and to prevent new sun damage from accumulating.

Is the MOXI laser right for you?

MOXI is an excellent option for those looking to address early signs of aging, sun exposure, and uneven tone without significant downtime. As a gentle, non-ablative fractional laser that’s safe for all skin types, it can be performed throughout the year. It’s often chosen as a preventive approach to maintaining healthy-looking skin, or for improving overall skin texture, making it a great fit for people with full, active schedules.

If you have concerns about uneven texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, sun damage, age spots, or mild melasma, MOXI could be a great option to achieve your goals.

Who should not have MOXI?

MOXI may not be suitable for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active skin infections such as cold sores or inflamed acne, or are currently taking isotretinoin (Accutane). It is also generally avoided in patients with severe rosacea, eczema, or those who have a strong sensitivity to heat.

Every patient’s skin is unique. You’re welcome to book a complimentary consultation with our team to talk about the results you’d like to achieve. During this visit, we can assess your skin and determine whether MOXI or another treatment plan would be the best approach to help you reach your goals.

MOXI vs. HALO Tribrid

One benefit of choosing MOXI at MD Beauty Clinic is access to our advanced HALO Tribrid system, which allows us to combine treatments for more comprehensive skin rejuvenation. Using a single device, we can perform both MOXI and HALO laser treatments in the same session to enhance resurfacing, improve skin clarity, and address multiple concerns at once.

HALO Tribrid works by delivering three complementary wavelengths that target different layers of the skin, from the surface down into deeper tissue. This approach allows us to refresh the outermost skin cells, improve pigmentation and uneven tone, and stimulate renewal within the dermis to support long-term skin improvement.

By pairing HALO and MOXI together, we’re able to create a more complete treatment in a single visit, giving you the benefits of both technologies without needing separate appointments.
