As much as we’re huge fans of Morpheus8, it’s one thing to talk about what the treatment is all about and another to actually undergo it. We like to be super transparent about what our treatments are actually like, because they’re not all the same. Some can be a little more involved, while others are super quick and painless in and out type treatments (hello, Miracle 10 Facial Peel).

We love Morpheus8 because it offers so many skin benefits, from tightening to overall rejuvenation, while also addressing specific skin concerns and conditions from hyperpigmentation and textural irregularities to acne and acne scarring.

That being said, it’s not what you would consider to be a super relaxing treatment, and it does require some time spent at the clinic as well as some social downtime afterwards.

If you’ve recently booked a Morpheus8 treatment with us or are thinking about having one done, here’s a breakdown of what it’s actually like to have the treatment.

What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a treatment that combines radiofrequency (RF) technology with deep microneedling. When we say deep microneedling, what we mean is that Morpheus8 has the capability to penetrate tissue about 4-5 mm below the skin’s surface which is much deeper than traditional microneedling treatments.

This means that Morpheus8 can treat both the lower and upper layers of the skin with RF energy, offering unique skin tightening and remodelling results, as well as addressing a wide variety of skin concerns. It’s really a fantastic treatment for pretty much anyone, all ages, and all skin types and tones. It’s great for anyone either looking for overall skin rejuvenation and improvement or looking to combat a specific concern.

The Morpheus8 Treatment: What It’s Really Like

So what can you expect from your Morpheus8 treatment?

If you’re treating a standard area like the face, neck, or both together, you can expect to be tied up at the clinic for about 1.5 to 2 hours.

1 hour alone is reserved for numbing the treatment area. We’re only actually administering the treatment on the skin for about 20 minutes during a standard session. What really takes the most amount of time during a Morpheus8 treatment is prepping the skin, teaching you how to use the Pronox (i.e. laughing gas), providing after care, adjusting the settings etc.

All of this takes time so we recommend that you come with your headphones and listen to a podcast or some music.

You may have heard that Morpheus8 is a spicy treatment. It’s true, it is. It’s different from other treatments we provide, like filler, where it’s a series of small injections with a single needle—something we’re generally used to already, with having our blood drawn for instance. Just a quick poke here and there and you’re done.

Morpheus8 is a different experience and we think it has to do with the RF heat combined with the anticipation of the “trigger.” The microneedling part of the treatment is akin to a kind of stamping sensation. Getting your face stamped is not the best feeling in the world.

Since you’re numbed, it’s not painful, but it can be kind of grating and a little anxiety inducing. BUT our new numbing cream combined with the Pronox laughing gas is really helping patients find the treatment to be way more tolerable. We’ve really noticed a difference since we’ve incorporated these two things as important parts of the treatment. And our doctors are always following the latest research to find the safest and most effective ways to make our more invasive treatments feel a little more chill.

What To Expect Following Your Morpheus8 Treatment

Once you’re done, you’ll find that your skin will feel hot and red afterwards and this will slowly subside throughout the rest of the day. You’ll probably notice pin pricks for up to a week or two after the treatment but this is easily covered with makeup.

Some patients may develop small raised bumps from the microneedling but these will diminish to the small pin pricks within 1-3 days. Itchiness within the first few days is also very normal.

Honestly, with make-up, within 48 hours you’ll be pretty much good to go, but we don’t recommend scheduling any really glam events just a few days after your treatment. Give your skin a good week or two to fully heal, for sure.

When You’ll See the Results of Your Morpheus8 Treatment

Within a few days of the treatment you’ll start to see an improvement in the overall quality of your skin. If you had Morpheus8 done primarily for skin tightening you’ll need to give it a little more time to see the results, approximately 3 weeks.

Optimal results, no matter what skin concerns you’re addressing with Morpheus8, are always always seen after you’ve completed ideally a series of three treatment sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. You’ll see your results only continue to improve in the months following your final treatment session.

We find that the 2nd and 3rd treatment sessions tend to be easier for patients and we think this has something to do with how the brain perceives repeat encounters with the exact same kind of sensation and generally just knowing what to expect from the treatment.
