There are some parts of the body that we tend to think about and take care of more than others, which makes total sense. The face is typically our number one priority when it comes to skincare as it’s really the central feature of our bodies and how we express and present ourselves to others.

The skin, though, is a large organ (the largest actually!) that covers our whole body and we know that some parts, especially those that we can’t really see, can get a little neglected… especially our backs and bums.

At MD Beauty Clinic we’ve been offering chemical peels for the back for a long time, but we’re now offering peel treatments for the buttocks. Yup, you heard correctly. The bum needs a little TLC from time to time too 🍑

The most common bum skincare concerns

The skin on the bum is a little different from elsewhere on our body for a number of reasons. First off, it’s pretty hard to reach, so it tends to get the short end of the stick when it comes to attention like moisturizing or even proper cleansing. The skin can therefore be bumpy with a rough texture and a lack of exfoliation can even lead to the occasional breakout occurring. Pimples on the bum are more common than you might think! And many if not most of us would probably opt out of them if we had the option.

The most common concerns that people have with the skin on their bums is discolouration, uneven skin tone, congested skin, bumps and pimples. Some people can also develop a harmless skin condition called keratosis pilaris.

Keratosis pilaris is sometimes referred to as “chicken skin” (seriously, why do the nick names for these types of issues always make them sound worse than they actually are) but really it’s just a condition that causes patches of rough-feeling bumps to appear. These dry and bumpy rough patches are sometimes a little darker in colour and they’re really just a buildup of dead skin cells plugging hair folicles.

It’s a condition that tends to get worse in dryer winter months and sometimes it can be exacerbated during pregnancy. It’s totally harmless, it can sometimes be a little itchy or irritable and some people just don’t like the look of it and want to get rid of it. The great news is that peel treatments are an excellent treatment option.

What does a peel treatment for the bum entail?

A peel treatment for the bum is actually not much different than the peel treatments we offer for the face and other parts of the body. The treatment takes around 45 minutes and is actually pretty relaxing.

We start with mechanical exfoliation, in order to gently remove any dead and dry skin, and to really ensure that all bacteria that lies on the surface of the skin is removed. We follow with a lactic, glycolic, or salicylic acid peel depending on your skin type and concerns. Just like for the face, at MD Beauty Clinic we always customize our treatments to each individual’s skin type and goals.

After the peel we apply a soothing clay mask, followed by a dry ice application, which is great for congested pores. The dry ice treatment is antibacterial and will tighten up open pores and keep oil and dirt from clogging them and causing break outs.

The peel treatment for the bum requires no downtime, and you’ll leave with the skin on your bum feeling clean and hydrated and beach ready.

How much does a peel treatment for the bum cost?

Peel treatments for the bum are safe for all skin types and cost $200 per treatment or $640 for a package of four treatment sessions.
