If you’re a skincare aficionado like we are, then you’re looking for the treatments that will best address your skin goals and concerns. These are not the same for everyone! Some people need to treat very specific skin conditions, like acne or hyperpigmentation, and some are just looking to treat fine lines and wrinkles, or for overall skin rejuvenation.

Whatever your individual skin needs, there is no doubt a treatment out there that will be effective in addressing your concerns. What we love about Morpheus8 is that it can actually address a wide range of skin concerns, anything from acne to hyperpigmentation as well as skin tightening to textural irregularities.

The catch with Morpheus8 is that it’s not the most comfortable treatment to undergo, which can put a lot of people off. Is it painful? The short answer is, not with the protocols that we have put into place for the treatment at MD Beauty Clinic. But we’ll be honest, it’s still what we would call one of our spicier treatments—and we’re happy to have methods to take it down to mild.

What is Morpheus8?

If you’re wondering what Morpheus8 is all about, it’s actually a pretty unique treatment. It’s primarily a skin tightening and remodelling treatment that combines radiofrequency (RF) technology with deep microneedling.

And when we say deep microneedling, we mean much deeper than traditional microneedling treatments, which is why Morpheus8 is so effective. It can basically treat both the upper and lower layers of your skin with RF heat.

It does however require some social downtime, so we always tell patients to schedule the treatment a minimum of 3 days in advance of any big event. You might experience mild swelling and bruising and your skin might have some small raised bumps after the treatment. This heals beautifully in 1-3 days, but you need to give it just that little bit of time.

Is Morpheus8 painful?

Like we said, Morpheus8 is definitely a spicy treatment. We find that patients tolerate the second and third treatment sessions better than the first.

That being said, we generally didn’t love how uncomfortable our patients were during the treatment when we started offering it. The combination of RF heat and the microneedling “trigger” gave a lot of our patients anxiety and we just did not want that for them.

So in order to make the treatment way more tolerable we now have the option to numb the skin prior to treatment. We can either inject lidocaine into the skin or apply topical lidocaine. We find that injecting lidocaine into the skin works best but if you are very averse to needles and want to stick with topical numbing only, we do offer Pronox (laughing gas) as well to take the edge off. Topical numbing isn’t perfect, and depending on your tolerance level, pain is still present. That being said, it is still a viable option to make the treatment more manageable.

If you’ve had FaceTite or a thread lift done with us then you’ll know what we’re talking about because it’s basically the same kind of numbing. You’re numb for a while (like after you have a filling at the dentist) but it makes the treatment manageable.

Everyone is so different, though. Some people tolerate Morpheus8 with just topical numbing alone. But others, even with high pain tolerances, generally find it tough to get through.

With the pain management protocols we have in place now, no, the treatment is not painful, you might just find it grating. What you do want to keep in mind is that if you’re planning to come in for the treatment, you can expect it to take anywhere from 1.5-2 hours as it takes about one hour for the numbing to kick in. The treatment itself only takes about 20 minutes, so that part is super super brief.

We recommend you bring your headphones and some entertainment, like music or a podcast, to help pass the time.

Is Morpheus8 worth it?

Yes! It truly is! So please don’t get put off by what seems like a daunting experience, it really is more manageable now with the numbing.

Our patient in the video above has a very low pain tolerance and is afraid of needles. She was comfortable during the numbing procedure and felt very little pain during the treatment.

Morpheus8 is such a versatile treatment and safe for all skin types and tones. If you’re struggling with acne, it is literally the best treatment we have for it, as it eliminates the bacteria that causes acne in the first place. It will also improve the appearance of any acne scarring that you might have as a result.

It’s also an amazing treatment if you want to address hyperpigmentation end even out the tone of your skin as well as smooth out any textural irregularities.

Don’t forget that Morpheus8 is ultimately a skin tightening treatment, and is a huge collagen booster. It can really improve any areas of the face, like around the jawline, for instance, that might sag or jowl, and can be applied to the neckline as well and to the rest of the body with the Morpheus8 Body treatment option.

And if you’re looking for just overall skin rejuvenation, we honestly could not recommend a better treatment.

We're here for you.
